Harrington, C. (2011). Urban language teaching and learning: The community connection. The Modern Language Journal, 95, 293-296.
摘要:Harrington notes that many connections exist between language teaching and learning and a community, discussing how this is particularly true for large urban school districts in the United States. She presents an overview of the Fort Worth Independent School District as a way of identifying the district's most outstanding language education challenges. The district must provide access to English-language schooling for immigrant groups with a wide variety of English proficiency levels, attended to the highly varied interests of the Hispanic population, engage the monolingual English student population in second-language learning, support the teachers, lay down and groom two-way streets of communication between home and school, and find ways of making educational decision-making transparent and desirable to the power brokers and financial supporters in the community.
